Travelling to Aberdeen

As the largest city in the region with a central location on the East Grampian Coast, Aberdeen provides a natural centre for transport links in the region.

Train
Aberdeen railway station is centrally located next to the brand new Union Square shopping centre. Regular services run by East Coast and Scotrail connect the city with the rest of the UK. Stops are also made for Laurencekirk, Stonehaven and Portlethen, coastal towns to the south of Aberdeen. Unfortunately, the rail network no longer continues north along the coast.

Substantial discounts are available to those who book tickets in advance; tickets are available up to 12 weeks before the journey takes place. Booking a seat is also recommended as trains can be busy at peak times.

National Rail has a useful journey planner for those travelling by train.

You can also plan journeys and book tickets with the train operators directly:
Bus

Aberdeen’s bus station is centrally located next to the train station in the city centre. Buses from the bus station provide regular services connecting the region with the rest of the UK. A number of buses for Aberdeen City and Shire also operate from this point.

  • Scottish City Link – Connects more than 200 locations across Scotland
  • National Express – Connects Aberdeen with other cities in the UK
  • Megabus – Low price connections with the rest of the UK
